Three games. Three wins. Plus seventy.

Minnesota won its first three games by at least 22 points. The record is good; the comfort of those wins earns our positive-surprise pick.

At a glance

  • Minnesota Timberwolves opened the 2026–27 NBA season 3–0, with a combined scoring margin of +70.
  • The wins: 131–106 over Miami, 115–93 over Orlando and 117–94 over Toronto. Each margin was at least 22 points.
  • Minnesota is BasketRewind’s positive-surprise pick after three games, an editorial judgment on the opening sample.

A comfortable start, three times over.

Minnesota opened with a 131–106 win over Miami, followed it with a 115–93 victory against Orlando, then beat Toronto 117–94. Three wins, with margins of 25, 22 and 23 points. Add them together and the Timberwolves stand at +70 after their first three regular-season games.

That is the reason for our positive-surprise pick. A 3–0 record gets attention. Winning every game by at least 22 points gives us something more specific to examine.

The surprise is the speed.

The Wolves were already a good team. They finished last season 49–33 and sixth in the West, then added LaMelo Ball. Improvement was a reasonable expectation. The speed with which this group has started winning comfortably is what stands out.

Two of those victories came on the road. In each game, Minnesota built enough of a final margin that the result did not come down to one last bounce.

Now watch when the cushion disappears.

Three games are a starting point. Our next question is how the Wolves respond when an opponent takes away the first option and the margin gets tight. Can they still create the right shot? Can they execute with a possession carrying more weight?

For now, Minnesota gets our opening-week vote. The first three results have earned that attention. Weekly Rewind 001 puts the numbers beside our Top 10 plays and the NTA debate from Miami.
